JOHANNESBURG: Late Tuesday night, two more bodies were recovered from a disused mine shaft at Langlaagte in Johannesburg, bringing the total number of illegal miners who've died there to three.

It's still unclear whether there are any other bodies underground.

Community volunteers brought the bodies to the surface last night.

They'd been trapped underground at Langlaagte since last week.

The men aged 24 and 31 are both from Zimbabwe.

The community leaders also from Zimbabwe have accused South African authorities of not doing enough to help the illegal miners.

Nicholas Mabhena of the Zimbabwe Community in SA said, “The South African government through the mineral resources minister took a decision to abandon the search claiming there is no one inside.

"We have proven that yes there were people inside. This in our view is arrogance at its best because when the minister came here he came in like a pop star to address the media and not said anything to the relatives.

"He had no interest to talking to people working in this mine.”

While still in shock some thanked the volunteers for allowing them to give their loved ones a proper burial.

One of the deceased’s relatives, Shadrack Mlalazi said “I am really grateful, I had really lost hope that my brother’s body would be found government officials had said that they can’t find him inside".

Community leaders say they are sure there are no other Zimbabweans underground and therefore they have ended the search.
